Across all levels:

"The Map of Meaning is a engaging and practical approach for development on a number of levels. Its simplicity belies its depth and comprehensiveness."
Gordon Oakly, Senior Consultant, Keogh Consultancy, Adelaide, Australia

Benefits

For your organisation or business:
Use the research based Map of Meaning tool – individually, in pairs (for example in performance appraisals) and in small and large groups to:
  • create meaningful workplaces
  • re-energise workplaces and create a deeper level of engagement
  • arrive at vision and values statements that everyone buys into and for which everyone feels responsible
  • reclaim the significance of meaningfulness as a fundamental human need for people, organisations, communities and for society
  • expand and align the internal practices of meaningful work with the organisation’s wider responsibility and sustainability goals
  • regain balance, create deeper levels of engagement and to arrive at a common vision that inspires all
  • work steadily, purposefully, collaboratively and sustainably.

For the self:

“I experienced this model as being much more than a 'model'. It is a life process of development that keeps one focused on what it is to be truly human.”
Margi Gordon, Principal Consultant Roffey Park Institute

“This work defines a territory that has been hard to grasp. For the first time we can fully understand the value of meaningfulness in our work and life. Most impressively, the Map of Meaning shows us what to do about it to increase meaningfulness.”

Ann Edge, President, Arbitrators and Mediators Institute of New Zealand.

"By providing a well tested, comprehensive framework and language, this work helps managers to engage in a genuine dialogue on how daily tasks can be a natural expression of what truly matters, beyond profits and growth. Grounded and deep, the authors show us how to integrate inspiration and purpose into the reality of business."

Lenette Schuijt, leadership trainer and author of several books on management and inspiration.

"The process helps top executives"
"Lani and Marjolein have the ability to distil what could otherwise be a complex, or even taboo, topic into very simple, clear and above all usable information. Their process helps top executives on an enjoyable journey from uncertainty and confusion to insight, understanding and a path to self-realisation and grounded business outcomes."
Drew Pryde
Chairman,  Scottish Institute of Business Leaders

Working with groups:

In a relaxed and peaceful environment, this workshop gave me a wonderful opportunity to look at the heart of my organisation and see where I could personally make a contribution to a deeper understanding of its spirit.”

Dr Valda Ward, Senior Lecturer in Management, Australian Catholic University, Melbourne.

Working one to one:

“In evaluating our relationship from a profound place we realised how simple it was to actually talk about what is important to us, and how little time we do spend talking about that matters most to us.”

"It always works"

“ I know from my experience of working with the Map of Meaning that of all the tools, interventions and frameworks I've used, this is one that consistently adds value to whatever I'm doing. It always works. It always has an impact and engages everybody. It has rigour, there is a strength to the framework, and sufficient space within that for people to construct their own meaning."
Steve Tarpery
Organisational Consultant with over twenty years’ experience in the UK

"A whole new level of understanding"

“The authors bring the meaning we make of life to a whole new level of understanding in their book. I loved this book and am so glad to have been exposed to the model – what a gift!”
Jane Dutton
Professor of Business Administration and Psychology, University of Michigan
One of the world’s leading authorities on Meaningful Work

“We can start straight away to do something”

"This is a bottom-up process. Anyone can use this map and start to make a difference, where they are, where they can. They can start with themselves, maybe with their team - which is what I am going to do - and then hopefully with their organisation. We are not powerless and with this we can start straight away to do something that makes a difference."
A scientist, after being introduced to the map

“Even more value from attending a workshop”

“People love the book, but they get even more value from attending a workshop and being able to work through the exercises with others,” Map of Meaning co-author Lani Morris.

Some of the ways The Map of Meaning is being used

Masterclass facilitator and co-author of the book The Map of Meaning Lani Morris shares a few stories to highlight the way the Map of Meaning helps people and organisations.

Higher motivation plus practical, do-able...

A woman is using the Map of Meaning in a large corporate.  She attended a workshop on the map earlier in the year and says that she uses it at least once if not more times a week since the workshop. She had just completed a series of workshops for people moving into a new building – after a restructure.  Using key elements from the Map of Meaning she was able to bring a depth, compassion and practicality all together into the sessions.

“People left with much higher motivation than any of the change team had expected, and yet at the same time, it was grounded, practical, do-able.  They were impressed, and so was I, at what could be achieved when we kept both inspiration and reality in view, which is what the Map enabled us to do.”

New openings...

I was talking to an old friend who has yet again been made redundant.  He’s a highly accomplished IT project manager who’s just turned 60.  His spiritual practice has fortified him for yet another period of searching for work, but I wanted to offer him the opportunity of working with the Map of Meaning to see if it could help him find a new way to contribute his skill, knowledge and wisdom.  At the end of the hour he had assessed his inner and material resources; seen new openings coming from his longing to contribute and found two key areas to explore further.  As a veteran of over ten years of career advice and some counselling he was delighted. “I’m really surprised at just how effective this was.  It’s given me a very different take on a situation that I know oh so well.”

Scientist sees way to begin bottom-up...

A scientist after reading the book said thoughtfully to my co-author the other day, “This is a bottom-up process. Anyone can read the book and just start to make a difference where they are, where they can.  They can start with themselves, maybe with their team – which is what I’m going to do – and then hopefully with their organisation. We’re not powerless and with this we can start straight away to do something that makes a difference.”

Author Lani Morris explains, "My experience of working with the Map of Meaning is that because it goes directly to the heart of the problem, i.e. “What is the point?” and then helps people to practically answer that for themselves, it places power back in the hands of individuals, while at the same time quite naturally linking this with organisational goals and purposes".
