Are you a woman located around Brisbane with a business or a professional role?
Interested in taking your experience of life and business to a richer level?
Here's a beautiful gift for you this Tuesday evening, 23 July that you'll enjoy and gain heaps from.

The evening (at The Sanctuary, Bardon, Brisbane) is presented under the auspices of the Women Howling at the Moon 2013 series of women's business network meetings with a difference, for women who are passionate to make a difference for their business, themselves and perhaps even the planet - and who think outside the box.

The focus of Tuesday evening's session, presented by Heather Price, is...

Your relationship with the spirit of your business

a generous opportunity for you to acknowledge and support
the energetic spirit of your business
and its community spirit
by creating an environment of deep connection and respect.

What you can look forward to from your participation in the evening

  • feeling re-connected and deeply grounded in the present moment
  • being inspired and invigorated with a deep foundation and energy for realising your vision and goals
  • being filled with a sense of wonder and quiet joy.

Presenter Heather Price

Heather Price provides Corporate Shamanism and Consultancy for life and business.

Through the shamanic approach she enables clients to explore  the interconnectedness of all things including the spirit of your customers, your employees, you as the boss – and the spirit of the business itself the benefits of treating our business with respect, even when it’s challenging – and the ways in which we insult our business the benefit and ways of building inclusivity and connectedness.

[Psst. Check in with me. Are you thinking you're not sure about this? Sounds a bit - ah - woowoo, alternative? Probably more for spiritual-focused businesses than traditional accounting firms or medical practices or homeware shops?

Well, that's what I'd thought too. And guess what. Not so! In fact.... ]

Heather's clients cover the full spectrum

From what I’d describe as traditional ‘hard’ fields
  • accounting
  • food services
  • big infrastructure project consultancy and a government organisation…

...right through to the more helping/feeling/creative domains
  • psychotherapy
  • events coordination
  • marketing
  • community services.

Her workshops and programs deliver powerful and immediate outcomes that businesses want, including
  • self leadership and self empowerment
  • restoring and expanding the spirit of business
  • clear vision, plans, goals for the future
  • and understanding and developing intuitive powers and skills.

Always with attention to the spirit of the individual and their business.

Yippee, an aha moment about my blind spots and stereotyping, just in time!!

Picture
Last newsletter, I mentioned Brene Brown’s recent book, Daring Greatly, in which she explores
  • the notion of shame
  • the courage to be vulnerable
  • and how dealing with the former creates the space for courage and transforms the ways we do life, business, everything.

I’ve found it to be REALLY great stuff.

Picture
Well, I’ve been dipping in and out of the book again during a blissful Stradbroke Island sojourn of whale watching, swimming and working from my Point Lookout office (left) ;-).

Along the way I had quite a timely aha moment where identifying my own buried beliefs has created a new freedom in an area of my life where I had thought of myself as flexible, inclusive and open-minded. Ha!

Just a little blinker here, a little blinker there, and we don't even notice what we're closing off from!

On top of that, if we do notice, it's soooo easy to bunker the stereotypes away again, keeping them safe, still ruling the roost, and our vulnerability under wraps since we don't deal with the contradictions or use it as an opportunity for practising courage and growth. As I know!

Whoa.

Get present to how stereotyping can keep one from advancing business or reaching full potential! AND how tempting it is to hide the sterotyping - and associated personal vulnerability - away again and leave the stereotypes intact and therefore still operating!

Hmm. If I hadn't dealt with this, I wouldn't be benefitting from Heather's gift to us. And not only that. Hundreds of women, whom I live to make a difference for, wouldn't even be given the opportunity to benefit or even choose for themselves. Yowee.

Touching any chords for you too?

Phew. Brene’s ‘ninja-warrior moves’ to the rescue

The fab Brene offers three steps for building shame resilience:
  1. Practise courage and reach out!
  2. Talk to myself the way I would talk to someone I really love and whom I’m trying to comfort.
  3. Own the story! (Brene: ‘If you own this story you get to write the ending’).

Quite straightforward, yes. The power is in the doing. So here goes. Chris doing the work.

Stereotypes and assumptions: owning and moving on

1. I’ve shared with friends that Heather’s work - and Brene's moves - have had me come face to face with my own latent stereotyping. That I'd had very limited and actually incorrect ideas both about shamanism, what sort of businesses might benefit, or even that

2. I've identified the stereotyping without making myself wrong – well, mostly!

And since I am operating from a space of honouring and being kind to myself, I can genuinely enjoy the process of outing these assumptions to a place where their hold loosens.  And enjoy the extra light and space inside now!

And as for a mainstream accounting business employing a shaman, for example, on a short or long term basis?
Which leaves the space to see where Heather makes a huge contribution.

Click to read the testimonials from very happy clients who have their own lives and their businesses and organisations working, and who recognise the vital ongoing role played by spirit in business development.

3. Best of all, with the stereotypes and shame having lost their hold and now out of the way, I really do get to own the story and write the ending! This is fun!

Stereotypes are identified and let go.
I have a new openness and sense of play in relation to developing my business
I now get to benefit from Heather’s workshop
AND so will you, your business and heaps of other women.

Happy dance :-)

See you tomorrow evening, Tuesday 23 July at 6.30pm.
