About Women Howling at the Moon

9/9/2016

Women Howling is a community of women from diverse walks of life and age groups who enjoy connecting authentically with other women to share deep diving conversation on things that matter and have a deeply satisfying evening. We also share a passion for contributing to a life and a world that works for everyone and the planet.

We meet monthly, on the night of the full moon (or close to) to dine together in a cafe we have to ourselves. We share stories of challenges and courage, we laugh lots, we focus on a particular topic that would make a difference in our lives - and oh yes, we howl (optional)! We leave the evenings uplifted, inspired by ourselves and others, with new friends, and with renewed hope and energy for our lives and the world.

Find out about the next Women Howling at the Moon event for the Brisbane region here to connect with this welcoming community of women.

Unstoppable Women: Natasha Alexander

On turning points, boundaries and Women Howling at the Moon
Dr Natasha Alexander is a clinical psychologist. She is also founder of Consentability, a vibrant new service providing provides education and advice on sexuality and relationships for adults with intellectual disabilities.

Here Natasha shares about a recent turning point in her own life; the importance of boundaries (this month's theme for the Women Howling at the Moon community); and the role of a women's empowerment community such as Women Howling at the Moon in her life.
"I had been following Chris and Women Howling at the Moon for a few months before I decided to be brave and turn up. I'm so glad I did. It is such a great feeling to be with a group of women of all ages and backgrounds, knowing that they have your back.

The session on courage was a real turning point for me, helping me to step out of my comfort zone and commit to my soul purpose.
Thoughts on boundaries
As a clinical psychologist I do a lot of thinking about boundaries in my work. Even more so now that I am going to be specialising in sexuality and disability. There is more than just therapeutic boundaries to think about though. Our own personal boundaries, boundaries imposed on us by other people's values and beliefs, or those of the organisation we work for. 😀

I have had times where I have felt the burden of all that is wrong in the world, and felt hopeless and helpless. By creating a niche, a kind of boundary I guess, I am carving a space where I can focus and make change. Some boundaries need to stay in place to protect us, while others can be gently (or firmly) pushed and reshaped. Having the support of the awesome Chris and such an inspiring group of women has been so important in helping me to work it all out!"

Unstoppable Women: Kathryn Walton

It's a joy to share with you this series profiling the inspiring women of this community, many of whom are members of the Brisbane region's Women Howling at the Moon community for strong women passionate about contributing to the world being a better place for all.

This week the focus is on Kathryn Walton. Kathryn has been a regular contributor to the Women Howling at the Moon community for around eighteen months - often in person whenever she can (a round trip of some three hours, I'd estimate) and regularly via the Women Howling Facebook membership group where her thoughtful and insightful posts on the month's theme are much appreciated.

About Kathryn

A vision to inform and inspire women
Kathryn is a Mental Health Social Worker based in Warwick, regional Queensland.

Her vision is to inform and inspire communities, particularly women, to be proactive in their mental health care by making healthy lifestyle choices that impact positively on themselves, their families, networks, workplaces and the wider community.

Her ultimate parallel universe
Discovering mountain biking as life’s ultimate parallel universe in her middle age, Kathryn uses Daisy Spoke Blog to connect, inspire and self-empower women.

She integrates her love of physical exercise, family, nature, gardening and creative arts with her professional background in mental health social work to facilitate change with individuals, groups and communities of women who are committed to living life to the full.

Kathryn’s private practice Condamine Assist is based in Warwick on the Southern Darling Downs in Queensland, Australia where she also offers women’s mentoring programs, personal growth and professional development workshops, and counselling sessions.

Connecting with Kathryn

Empowered Women workshop

For women in south-east Queensland, Kathryn is running an Empowered Women workshop in the next week. While it's filling fast, I understand there are still a couple of places available.

I recommend Kathryn's insightful and gently humorous blog Daisy Spoke where she writes about empowerment, overcoming her fear - AND taking on mountain bike riding in situations that sure do require courage. For example, "Taking a Crack at Chicks in the Sticks" is her delightful post on what it took and what happened when she took on a recent challenge of riding in a big group event.

You might also catch up with Kathryn through
our Facebook group, and at a future Women Howling at the Moon event.

Thoughts about Women Howling at the Moon

"Some of the best choices I've ever made in my life have been to join in the monthly "Women Howling at the Moon" dinners and participating in Chris's "Unstoppable Women" and "Momentum" programs! This community of inspiring women shares a genuine desire to live life to the full, to make conscious choices about striving towards your vision, and to be present with each other at a deep level through the struggles and the successes. This is my tribe :)".
