Like to have this year fulfil on your dreams?

A reflection on setting up to achieve our vision

This post is dedicated to those who have a powerful vision or goal that calls them to act; one they want to see come to fruition. It focuses on developing our relationship with our vision; and on setting up structures to keep it powerfully in existence through those good as well as tough times.
I love the start of the year for the opportunity to reflect and plan while life 'outside' tends to run at a slightly slower/different pace. A time to set sails for the coming year with the elements that will enable us to stay on course, be filled with our respective possibilities and sail through being and creating the difference we are each here for.
Planning the trip
Picture'Monkeyme' sets sail. Image: Sue Henderson.
This year has been an extra treat as my sister Sue and her partner Tarci fulfil one of their dreams of ocean sailing their 38 ft Wharram catamaran Monkey Me down the eastern coast of Australia. I follow their progress from dream to success and feel the excitement as well as the fear as though I am there! They've now reached Eden where they'll stay a couple of days. Next stop on the way to Tasmania is Flinders Island in the Bass Strait - a 30 to 40 hour non-stop trip. Hence the sailing metaphors.

People who are truly up for stepping into their courage and realising their vision, whether it's sailing the oceans or building their business or an environmental campaign know it really takes something, over and over. The main elements and sequence that I see making the crucial difference are:
  • Having DREAMS THAT INSPIRE US. Truly the source of the wind in our sails for manifesting extraordinary results.

As Pamela Vaull Starr (1909-1993) says, 'Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal.'
  • HONOURING AND KEEPING THOSE DREAMS VIBRANTLY ALIVE IN OUR HEART AND MIND'S EYE. Here is the crucial sustaining and connecting step. What keeps the wind in our sails, and reminds us on a daily basis of the destination we want to be heading towards - and why we are doing what we are doing.
  • These two elements in place provides the enabling context for LIVING THAT POSSIBILITY and FULFILLING ON OUR INTENTIONS with ease and grace over the short term or longer.

Checking the supplies

Looking at the present situation, and what you need to set sail, would you say there's enough existence structures in daily life and circumstances for the first two dotpoints: to keep your dreams alive in full sail and on track? Do they sometimes slip out of focus or are perhaps forgotten in the melee of daily commitments? Welcome to the human default condition. On the whole, we are not set up to operate at our edge, or to keep new behaviours or ideas in existence.

Tweaking the second element in the above list - i.e. keeping the dreams vibrantly alive - can be the minimal-effort catalyst point that can have you really deliver on your dreams this year. And, if you already feel you're on track, set your sails to reach your next stars.

Participant feedback:
In early January, 11 participants from a range of professional contexts came together for the first one-day Map of Meaning in-practice workshop. The event was pronounced a delicious success along all dimensions - the food as well ;->. Participants had this to say:
...important insights [that] have created a permanent shift in how I feel about my own value and the value of my work in the world - Arlanda Rayne, Life Coach and Presenter, Awaken Your Sacred Purpose

Well worth the time and cost - Vicki Godfrey, Director, Community Centre

.I found the Map of Meaning tool an extremely simple but effective tool for refocussing attention on those aspects of my attitudes and behaviours that have languished, and has given me tools to redirect my efforts to create outwardly positive behaviours and results - Robert Worrall, Environmental Professional

Very timely and very positive - Linda Heron, Business Development Manager
